Derek Fisher On Sparks Sluggish Shooting Against Wings “Physically We Didn’t Look As Sharp And Like Ourselves”

The Dallas Wings were able to pick up their fifth victory of the season against the visiting Los Angles Sparks 74- 62. Dallas Wings’ forward Kayla Thornton would lead all scorers with 17 points, while grabbing three rebounds, and dishing out two assists.

After the Game, Kayla Thornton talked about the Wings defense against the Sparks on Tuesday afternoon.

“LA is a great team coming off a great win last night versus Washington, so we had to stop their outside shooting. (Chelsea) Gray is a great point guard, and I think we did a great job on Gray because she is the head of the snake and if we slow her down, we are going to slow down their team. I give my team credit. Kaela Davis and Imani McGee-Stafford coming off the bench and giving us great minutes and energy.”

As far as not giving up, “In the back of the mind, I remember I’m playing for my teammates, and I don’t want to let my teammates down. We keep each other going and last game versus Chicago towards the end we lost our poise and our focus, and we were determined this game to finish it.”

Also after the game, Wings coach Brian Agler praised Thornton on her performance in the fourth quarter.

“She got it rolling and hit some really tough shots. To have success in this league, you have to have playmakers. You can run your offense all day long, but you have to have people that have the ability to put the ball on the floor and go make plays, and she did during that time. Kaela Davis was an asset tonight with her ability to put the ball on the floor, gives us another ballhandler out there, can shoot it and at the same time gives us some length at the defensive end.”

As for the Sparks, their head coach Derek Fisher talked about their sluggish afternoon shooting from the floor.

“Physically we didn’t look as sharp and like ourselves and I think a lot of it was mental. I don’t know if it was the early start or the lack of respect for our opponent or whatever combination of things that mentally didn’t allow our team to be as dialed in and focused as we needed to be and that carried physically over into the game.”

The Sparks play the Indiana Fever on Friday at 7 p.m. EST.
