On Tuesday it was announced that Seattle Storm point guard Sue Bird would miss eight to ten weeks due to a leg injury as reported by High Post Hoops’ Arielle Chambers. After completing her rehabilitation, there is a chance that the three-time champion and future Hall of Famer “may or may not return” this season.

“I’m super disappointed to have to miss time with the team this season. There’s nothing I want more than to be on court with my teammates defending our title,” said Bird. “I’ve been down this road before, so now I just have to focus on getting better so I can continue to represent the Storm, the city of Seattle and the ‘Storm Crazies’ in the future.”

This is coming on the heels of already losing WNBA and Finals MVP Breanna Stewart, who suffered a torn Achilles tendon In the Europe League earlier this year.

Sue Bird is no stranger to knee injuries, and she played through them in 2012, In 2013 she would have season-ending surgery and would miss some time at the 2016 Olympics in Rio due to injury.

During a recent phone interview with The Big 3’s Nate Robinson, who was not aware of the news of Sue Birds’ injury at the time shared what the WNBA will miss with her absence this season.

“She is Seattle basketball and a pioneer of women’s basketball. She has won at every level she played in high school, college, WNBA, and has several Olympic gold medals. Sue Bird is one of the dopest guards to play basketball ever that is male or female,” Robinson told me.

He would continue:

“I wasn’t aware she got hurt, I’m sorry to hear that it sucks, but it is an opportunity for someone else on the Seattle Storm. They have been learning from a G.O.A.T, and as for Sue Bird, I have been a fan forever, and my daughter is a fan. I brought my daughter to the finals last season and watched them win it all, and it was magical. Letting people know that we need the Sonics back, and she should definitely be a coach on the coaching staff or a part of the organization in some capacity when the Sonics return.犀利士

Earlier this year, Bird spent some time in the Denver Nuggets front office as a basketball operations associate. The Nuggets would finish their season in the Western Conference Semi-Finals after losing to the Portland Trailblazers in game seven 100-96.

As for The Seattle Storm, they are coming off a three-game sweep of the Washington Mystics in the WNBA FInals and will be raising their championship banner on Saturday, May 25th. The Storm will play the Phoenix Mercury in a rematch of last years Western Conference Final and the game will air on ABC at 12:30 p.m PST.
