Pacers Head Coach Nate McMillan Speak On Paul Allen’s Contributions To Sports And Society

Before the 2018-2019 NBA season, Portland Trail Blazers Owner Paul G Allen passed away after losing his ongoing battle with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.  Allen is a co-founder of the Microsoft Corporation along with Bill Gates, helped build the company into a global conglomerate and then channeled his earnings into helping establish Seattle, Washington as one of the world’ s must-see travel destinations. Through his contributions to the city of Seattle.

In 1988, Allen purchased the Portland Trail Blazers from California real estate developer Larry Weinberg for $70 million. Allen was instrumental in the development and secured the funding for the Moda Center (Formerly known as the Rose Garden) 

Eight years later, Allen would step in and purchase the Seattle Seahawks from Ken Behring, who threaten to relocate to Southern California. The Seattle Seahawks won their first Super Bowl in 2013 beating the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII, capturing the ‘Vince Lombardi.”

Microsoft Co-Founder Bill Gates had this to say about his friend’s passing:

“When I think about Paul, I remember a passionate man who held his family and friends dear. I also remember a brilliant technologist and philanthropist who wanted to accomplish great things and did,” said Gates.

Paul deserved more time in life. He would have made the most of it. I will miss him tremendously.

Dallas Mavericks Owner Maverick Cuban had this to say via Twitter we he heard the news of Allen’s passing

Maverick owner Mark Cuban shared his thoughts on the passing of fellow NBA owner Paul Allen before the first game of the 2018-2019 season.

“He was a legend! When I first came into the league, he told me what to expect from David Stern and how to deal with it. He was relentless and what he believed in for the NBA and didn’t take any prisoners. He always tried to do the right thing. Obviously, he was a legend in the tech world I grew up in the PC business, and I started selling PCs 1983, and Microsoft products when he was part of the company. It’s just heartbreaking because there is so much to him and what he brought to the world that I don’t think people recognized, but the people who know him do and appreciate it,” Cuban told me.

” He has done a lot for sports in general and certainly for the NBA owning the Blazers. Really making that team into a contender during the time that he owned them. A very passionate fan of sports and the NBA. He really tried to give the Portland community and NBA family a franchise contender. He is definitely going to be missed.
