With Father’s day being this past Sunday, Rollout Magazine’s Derrell Jazz Johnson recently spoke to Drederick Irving, who is the father of Celtics pending free agent. Two of them discussed a variety of different topics during their interview, but the thing that stood out the most was Drederick’s responds to a question on keeping your word.

“Keeping your word, for me, is the only thing I have. My kids, we have this saying that “I give my kids, my word as a man,” and that’s the only thing I have is my word.“

“I think it’s important to deliver when kids are promised things. It’s … critical to deliver, because if you don’t, there could be some repercussions that parents are creating that they don’t even know about, said Irving“ (quote transcribed by rollingout.com).

Does Drederick Irving comments on keeping your word have any bearing on Kyrie’s upcoming free agency decision this summer?

Last October, Kyrie Irving was asked if he would be re-signing with the Boston this off-season. Irving would reply, “If you guys will have me back, I plan on re-signing here.”

Earlier this year, Irving stance on the topic seemed like it changed a little when he was asked again if he still planned on signing with Boston this summer. This time the former NBA Champion replied: “Ask [him] July 1.”

Kyrie has a tough decision to make about his offseason on where he wants to continue to be in the leadership role with the Boston Celtics, in Brooklyn or take a back seat to LeBron James, and Anthony Davis with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Back in May, Irving was spotted at Hyde in LA with former teammate LeBron James, according to ESPN’s Jordan Schultz.

“Kyrie Irving was seen with LeBron at Hyde in LA on Saturday.“

As reported by Sam Amick of The Athletic, the Lakers are also in play to sign Irving this offseason. According to Shams Charania, Irving is not opting into his $21.3 million deal for next season and will become a free agent eligible to sign a new contract with Boston or elsewhere.

Earlier today, Shams Charania also reported, Irving “and top Celtics officials will meet soon to discuss his future, league sources said.”

We are only 13 days away before free agency starts on June 30 at 6 PM ET. Will the Boston Celtics be able to resign Kyrie Irving or will they replace him with someone else?

Stay tuned!
