Basketball Society’s Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson recently appeared on the Freddie and Fitzsimmons featured on ESPN Radio. During the conversation between Freddie Coleman and Robinson, they discussed free agent to be Kyrie Irving and where he might land this summer. Also during the interview, Robinson full disclosed that he is in contact with Irving and his camp.
“First of all, you have to take Kyrie for what he said at the beginning of the season when he stated: “If you guys will have me back, I plan on re-signing here.” That would not hold up in small claims court in New York City, but here is what I’ll say if I’m Kyrie Irving this is unfinished business news. When you looked at that Boston Celtics team last season, they started out the season behind the eight ball with Gordon Hayward going out. Then you have Kyrie Irving, who was out of the playoffs with an injury he had and then you have Jayson Tatum stepping it up. Somebody who did not really expect to do what he did,“ said Robinson.
“If I’m the Boston Celtics, you would think with Kyrie’s pride he would want to go there and handle unfinished business because Kyrie Irving is a basketball purist. I think a lot of people think he likes the attention, he just wants to be that guy, but he is actually the purest basketball minds that I have ever met. I think no pun intended, but the grass is not always greener on the other side.“
Boston is green literally because they are a collection of young guys, who really got the chance to bring it all together this season and they didn’t exceed those expectations. I never subscribed to the theory that the Celtics were going to rise to the occasion this season because in my opinion the Milwaukee Bucks are that team this year, and I felt they should have been that team last year. Now, they have jelled and they had a low profile. See, sometimes when you have these teams and there is some much attention drawn that the authenticity that team is tested. I think that is what is happening with Boston right now. I think that team has a collection of young guys, veterans, and more they haven’t been able to fit it all together. That is where you are with the Boston Celtics.
So does that mean that there a chance that Irving resigns with the Celtics or goes elsewhere?
I think it is a mental thing with Kyrie and if he signs back with this team for another year. I feel that the Celtics have been adversely tested and like I said the grass is not always greener on the other side. You think if Kyrie joins the Lakers it is unfinished business with LeBron and to be honest with you if you look at the Brooklyn Nets situation. I think that is a better fit than the New York Knicks because that team is such a young team has a culture that was curated, based on pure hungry guys. Similar to Boston, but if I’m Kyrie Irving, I’m looking past all the what ifs and what not’s the bottom line with Kyrie Irving, his legacy in the NBA Final has already been cemented by hitting a big shot against the Golden State Warriors in 2016.
However, former Celtic Kendrick Perkins was a guest on CLNS with Adam Kaufman and Perkins was asked if he thought Kyrie would return to the Celtics next season.
I don’t know, but I think he is gone. I’m looking at the writing on the wall and his body language and the way he is going about things. I think he is gone if was coming back he would have said he is coming back, in my opinion, said Perkins.
