Recently the Detroit Pistons were on the road to face the Dallas Mavericks for the first time this season. It also gave them their first look at the front runner for this year’s Rookie of The Year Luka Doncic. Pistons’ forward Blake Griffin would eclipse the 30 point mark for the sixth time in the last six games as he scored 35 points and added seven rebounds with four assists. Unfortunately, for Blake and the Pistons, it was not enough as they would fall 106-101 to the Mavericks.

As for Doncic, he led his team to another home victory against the Pistons as he scored 32 points, and grabbed eight rebounds with eight assists. Dennis Smith Jr poured in 19 points, dishing out five assists, and grabbed two rebounds in his second game after missing six games due to injury.

After the game Pistons’ coach Dwane Casey shared some of the things, they need to do collectively as a team to help Dallas to struggle away from the American Airlines Center.

“We have to do a better job in the second quarter when our second unit comes in. With physicality, our toughest, and make sure we do not give up second-chance points and understand what we are doing in pick and roll situation, whether we are switching or not switching and complete the play. I loved our start, and they are a very good team, Luka Doncic is a big-time player, and they have some good players around him,” Casey told me.

Pistons center Andre Drummond reiterated what coach Casey said in his post-game interview.

“We have to come with the same energy as we came with tonight. There isn’t anything different we need to draw up we just have to make those shots at the end of the game,” Drummond told me.

Carmelo Anthony has been in the news a lot this season. The future Hall of Famer has been traded twice this season. First from the Oklahoma City Thunder to the Atlanta Hawks after opting into his contractual player option Anthony and the Hawks would then agree to a contract buyout. Anthony would then sign a one year deal with the Rockets for $2.6 million. He appeared in ten games for the Rockets, as he came off the bench after starting all 1,054 games during his 15-year career. Both sides would decide to part ways only ten games into the season.

There were numerous reports that state it was because of Melo’s style of play doesn’t translate into today’s game, but after the Mavericks vs. Pistons game, I asked Blake Griffin if he felt that was the case regarding Melo’s game.

“Melo is a Hall of Famer and I think it is funny how fickle today’s world with social media and everything has become what have you done for me lately. I don’t know if they remember how good of a player he was and still is. Sometimes it’s the situation, it sucks to see as a basketball player to see people act he is something he is not, said Griffin.

Griffin continued:

“I have a feeling Melo will turn it around”
