It’s no secret Mark Jackson is one of the greatest point guards to ever play in the National Basketball Association. The 53-year-old played 19 seasons in the NBA and made life easy for players such as Reggie Miller, Patrick Ewing, Rik Smits, Chris Mullin, Sam Perkins, Charles Oakley, Dale Davis, and Antonio Davis.  As he was a pass-first type of point guard and it helped him reach as high as fourth on the all-time assists list. Mark’s ability to survey the court and direct him teammates in perfect position to score is what lead him into coaching.

The Golden State Warriors would name Jackson as their head coach on June 6, 2011; he would be the first coach hired by new owners Joe Lacob and Peter Guber. After being appointed the head coach, Jackson began to put is stamp on the Warriors’ organization by preaching defensive and developing Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.

During his three seasons in the Bay Area  Jackson led the Warriors to went 121-109, but he was let go in 2014. This is despite him leading the Warriors to back to back playoff appearances for the first time in 20 years. The following season five-time NBA Champion Steve Kerr was hired and led Golden State to their first title in 40 years. He would also add another one in 2017.

So the question that is on everybody’s mind is why Mark was fired?

“I think a small circle of ownership and [Joe]Lacob [Warriors owner] made up his mind that Mark was a certain way and it formed a narrative of how the other owners would feel about him,” former Warriors staffer, Otis Hughley told Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson this week on the Scoop B Radio Podcast.

Upon his firing in 2014, Jackson has had his name in the mix for other coaching opportunities, but nothing materialized. Several league sources had mentioned that Jackson was in the running for the Cavaliers head position before they hired current coach Ty Lue.  Also, the Warriors have made four straight Finals Appearance since his departure.

Mark’s replacement, Steve Kerr, has been very outspoken on a variety of topics from President Trump to addressing questions about the Warrior being Mark’s team. Steve has always praised Mark for his contributions to the Warriors’ organization. “When I was in TV, I was doing Warriors games for years,” Kerr said last year.

“Every year, they were one of the worst defensive teams in the league. Mark came in and made a focus of being a tough defensive-minded team.”
